ABOUT MATT The eclectic career of creative director Matt Berman started at the age of twenty-one working under the legendary art director Regis Pagniez who brought European flair to the masses with the launch of American Elle Magazine in the early 1990s. Under Mr. Pagniez’s guidance, Matt learned the standards of classic Swiss design principals and the importance of iconic imagery. After ELLE, Matt was chosen to serve as the creative director of what would be known as the most successful launch in magazine history – the creation of John F. Kennedy Jr’s George Magazine. The European influence that Matt embraced during his formative years at ELLE helped to define the bold design and iconic covers of the now mythical George Magazine. The debut cover of Cindy Crawford dressed as George Washington photographed by Herb Ritts, and collaborations with talent like Mario Sorrenti, Ellen Von Unwerth and Craig McDean resulted in some of the most memorable imagery in magazine history. After the passing of Mr. Kennedy, Matt spent five years in Paris shifting his career from magazines to brand consulting. Matt worked on projects alongside of masters Azzadine Alaia, Christian Lacroix and Alber Elbaz. He joined forces with celebrated editor Anne Chabrol and redesigned titles for The Marie Claire Group while simultaneously heading up assignments for Paco Rabanne and LVMH. Matt teamed up with Le Monde fashion critic, Laurence Benaim and created of the glossy Parisian staple Stiletto Magazine and served as a special projects creative director at the legendary newspaper Libération under its founder, Serge July. Matt returned to New York in 2006 to serve as a creative director of Bergdorf Goodman establishing a new way to look at the classic American Brand. He continued to consult with brands spearheading projects for Tommy Hilfiger, Hennessy, and Tods until being tapped by Patrick Wade and David DeMattei to oversee all creative channels at Lucky Brand Jeans. In 2014, Matt established The Matt Berman Studio.
